ORIGINS

The school was initially known as Johannesburg College and in 1910, changed its name to King Edward VII School.

RUGBY

COLOURS First XV Red Jerseys, with White Collars and White Shorts. Socks, Red with White turnover

FIRST RUGBY MATCH Against Houghton College in 1932. It ended in a 0 – 0 draw.

ORIGINS Until 1931, soccer was the only Winter Sport. Frank Robinson, the new Headmaster introduced rugby as an additional winter sport.

FAMOUS PLAYERS. Bryan Habana is the most famous rugby player produced by KES. Ali Bacher, South African cricket captain, played flyhalf for the school and Gary Player also played rugby for KES.

CRICKET

Cricket began with the arrival of AJ Atfield, a former Gloucester player. The first cricket game was played in 1906.

KES has produced several South African cricketers including Graeme Smith, Ali Bacher, Neil McKensie, Tony de Zorzi, and Quinton de Kock.
