Top World Rugby School
Sedbergh School is an international, full-boarding school uniquely located in England’s Lake District National Park; a UNESCO recognised area of outstanding natural beauty. The School has an international reputation for its sporting achievements and takes great pride in offering a broad range of sporting opportunities for all pupils, whatever their aptitudes and abilities.
The Sedbergh School Football Club was founded in 1879 and has gained a reputation as one of the very best rugby schools, consistently producing international players. Most famously, former England stars Will Greenwood and Will Carling are Old Sedberghians as well as, Bevan Rodd, Phil Dowson, Carl Fearns and James Simpson Daniel. In the last ten years more than 40 schoolboy Internationals have come through the school, most recently, Cameron Redpath.
The school has an intensive and comprehensive rugby programme run by Next Gen XV’s Coach of the Decade, Mr Simon Mulholland, Sedbergh’s Director of Rugby. Simon is supported by a team with extensive, high-level playing and coaching experience.
To ensure the teams play against the highest quality opponents, the teams travel across the UK for fixtures against schools such as Wellington, Millfield, Blackrock College, Dublin and Llandovery College, Wales and on any weekend there can be up to 14 teams taking to the field. The school’s own Buskholme playing fields have been described by Phil Dowson as ‘the best setting I have ever played in’. It is safe to say our playing arena is one of the best in the country.
